Bear Ambles Through Colorado Neighborhood
Lone Tree Resident Captures Bear on Video
Neighborhood Bear Caught on Camera
A Lone Tree resident captured video of a bear ambling through their neighborhood on Thursday morning. The video shows the bear walking down the street, seemingly unconcerned about the presence of humans.
Officials with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) say the bear is a yearling and is likely looking for food. They say it is not uncommon for bears to wander into neighborhoods in search of food, especially during the spring and summer months.
CPW advises residents to take precautions to avoid attracting bears to their property. These precautions include:
- Secure trash cans and dumpsters.
- Remove bird feeders from your property.
- Keep pet food indoors.
- Do not leave food or other attractants outside overnight.
If you encounter a bear in your neighborhood, CPW advises you to:
- Stay calm and slowly back away.
- Do not run or make sudden movements.
- Make yourself look as large as possible.
- If the bear approaches, make loud noises and throw objects at it.
- If the bear attacks, fight back with whatever you have available.
The bear in the video was eventually tranquilized by CPW and relocated to a safer area.
